Breaking Barriers on HIV, Diabetes & Chronic Disease — With Columbia CHAT

Spreading Love Foundation, in partnership with Columbia University Irving Medical Center's Community CHAT program, hosted a free Community Health Talk that connected 31 Bronx residents with expert information on diabetes, HIV, and other chronic conditions. Through direct access to medical professionals, bilingual health resources, and the distribution of over 200 health and essential items, the event empowered community members with the knowledge and tools needed to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.

On Wednesday, April 8, 2026 Spreading Love Foundation hosted a Community Health Talk on Diabetes, HIV, and Other Chronic Conditions

This event was made possible by the Columbia CHAT program, Columbia University Irving Medical Center’s initiative that brings medical experts directly into community-based organizations across Upper Manhattan and the South Bronx to expand health literacy at no cost.

31 community members participated, including seniors and low-income families. Through Columbia CHAT, medical professionals from Columbia University facilitated an open forum, answering questions on prevention, management, and treatment options for chronic conditions.

200+ health and essential items distributed to attendees

- Free $50 gift card raffle held for one participant, with additional gift items provided to all attendees

- Bilingual resources made available to support English and Spanish-speaking residents

The event was supported by 15+ community partners including Morris Heights Health Center, Anthem, NYC Health + Hospitals, VIP Community Services, Montefiore, MetroPlusHealth, New York Public Library, Grace Outreach, and the NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs.
